When mankind is threatened by a sudden emergence of undead monsters, those who are bitten become "Kabane" - one of them. To survive under the rise of Kabanes, the Hinomoto people have built fortress stations and barricaded themselves inside. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is the story of those who travel beyond these fortresses.
The movie is a compilation re-telling of the hit TV series Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, told over two parts: Part 1: Light That Gathers & Part 2: Life That Burns. See special content, new additional scenes that appear only in the film, and a remastering of the ending - different from the original TV series!

Where it came from
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Life That Burns was produced by Wit Studio as a theatrical compilation film serving as a bridge between the television series and its sequel. Released in 2017, the project was intended to refine the narrative pacing of the original show, which first aired in 2016, by condensing key story beats into a more focused cinematic format for fans of the dark fantasy, steampunk-inspired world.
The visual identity of the production is anchored by the intricate character designs of Mikimoto Haruhiko and the distinctive world-building characterized by armored trains and Kabane threats. Directed by Tetsuro Araki, the work emphasizes the high-octane action sequences and stylized aesthetic that defined Wit Studio's output during this period, ultimately receiving attention for its technical polish and atmospheric animation quality.
