Katana Maidens ~ Mini Toji

Katana Maidens ~ Mini Toji was produced by Studio Gokumi and animated by project No.9 as a spin-off to the original 2018 series Katana Maidens: Toji No Miko. Released in 2019, the series was designed to shift the tone of the franchise, moving away from the dramatic action of the source material toward a lighthearted, comedic aesthetic. The animation style utilizes a stylized chibi format, emphasizing character-driven gags and comedic interactions between the established cast of shrine maidens.

The production sought to capitalize on the popularity of the characters from the main series while offering a more accessible, casual experience for the fanbase. By focusing on short, bite-sized episodes, the creative team focused on playful character dynamics rather than the intricate sword-fighting choreography that defined the original series. It was received by audiences as a charming companion piece that serves as an informal retrospective of the franchise's character designs.
