Katsu Kaizou is a very gullible, 17-year-old high school student and a believer in science fiction, aliens, ghosts, UFOs, conspiracies, etc. He thinks that everything going on around him is the result of some sort of alien plot to take over the world. Each story is pretty much self-contained and is completely bizarre. Kaizou joins the school's science club, makes new friends, and ends up coming in contact with all sorts of strange things like log people, deadly sushi, pee-blades, scary infections, robot invasions, ghosts, living dolls, and more!

Where it came from
Katte ni Kaizou was adapted into an original video animation series in 2011 by studio Shaft, based on the surreal comedy manga by Koji Kumeta. The project arrived during a period of peak productivity for the studio, following their successful collaborations with Kumeta on the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series, and sought to translate the manga's chaotic, gag-heavy narrative style into a fast-paced audiovisual format.
Directed by Tatsuya Oishi and Akiyuki Shinbo, the production reflects the distinct visual language that defined Shaft’s output during that era, characterized by rapid-fire editing, stark typography, and abstract environmental design. While the series maintains a niche following, it is recognized for capturing the irreverent, subversive humor that defined Kumeta’s early work, serving as a stylistic precursor to the studio's later, more widely popularized projects.
