Kawasaki Frontale x Tentai Senshi Sunred

This special collaboration emerged in 2009 as a promotional initiative between the J1 League football club Kawasaki Frontale and the dark comedy anime series Tentai Senshi Sunred. Set in the city of Kawasaki, the anime follows a retired hero living a mundane life, and the team leveraged this local narrative connection to deepen their community engagement. The partnership featured various crossovers, including character appearances at matches and co-branded merchandise that highlighted the intersection of regional sports pride and pop culture.

The character designs and animation for the series were handled by Studio AIC A.S.T.A., aiming to capture the dry, irreverent humor of the original manga by Takashi Kubota. By placing a local hero character into the world of professional Japanese soccer, the producers sought to humanize the Kawasaki Frontale brand and attract a younger demographic of viewers. The initiative was well-received by fans of the series and local supporters alike, effectively cementing the anime's status as a cultural fixture within the city of Kawasaki.
