Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple: The Attack of Darkness

Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple: The Attack of Darkness represents a series of eleven original video animations (OVAs) released between 2012 and 2014. These episodes were produced by Brain's Base to continue the narrative of the original 2006 television anime series, which had left significant portions of the source manga by Syun Matsuena unadapted. The project was conceived to satisfy persistent demand from the fanbase for a direct continuation of the martial arts training arcs.

The production sought to maintain the visual style established by the original series while transitioning to a tighter, arc-focused storytelling structure. While the shift in studio and production format led to some changes in animation texture compared to the earlier broadcast run, the OVAs were designed to remain faithful to the spirit of the original character designs and the show's signature blend of comedy and high-stakes combat. They were generally received as a successful bridge for long-term followers of the series, providing closure for specific story beats that had remained unresolved.
