Where it came from
The Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple OVA specials, produced by Brain's Base and released in 2013, were created to continue the adaptation of the manga series by Syun Matsuena. Following the conclusion of the initial television anime run, these episodes were bundled with limited edition manga volumes to provide dedicated fans with further animated content, maintaining the energetic martial arts narrative that defined the original work.
The design and animation direction for these specials sought to retain the aesthetic established by the 2006 television series while incorporating refinements consistent with the studio's style at the time. The episodes focus on self-contained story arcs that showcase the protagonist's growth under his eccentric masters, receiving a warm reception from the existing fanbase who appreciated the continuation of the characters' training sequences and comedic dynamics.
