Where it came from
Kiddy Grade: Ignition serves as the first entry in a three-part film compilation series released in 2007. Produced by Studio GONZO, these films were created to revisit and refine the narrative of the original 2002 science fiction television series. The project sought to streamline the intricate plot involving the GOTT, an organization tasked with managing galactic commerce and suppressing crime, while introducing new animation sequences to enhance the visual experience for long-time fans.
The character designs for the franchise were originally helmed by Keiji Gotoh, known for his distinctively sharp and stylized aesthetic that defined the series' futuristic atmosphere. The production aimed to revitalize interest in the Kiddy Grade universe, focusing on the dynamic partnership between the protagonists, Eclair and Lumiere. While the series maintains a dedicated cult following for its blend of space opera and espionage, the film trilogy is primarily recognized as a condensed retrospective rather than a standalone narrative expansion.
