Kim no Juujika

Kim no Juujika, or The Cross of Gold, was produced by Tatsunoko Production and released in 1990 as a direct-to-video film. This production emerged during a period when the studio was exploring more mature or specialized narratives outside of its high-octane superhero staples, reflecting the broader Japanese animation industry's trend of utilizing the Original Video Animation format to tell self-contained, often experimental stories that did not require a television broadcast commitment.

The film is characterized by the distinct aesthetic hallmarks of Tatsunoko's late 1980s and early 1990s output, emphasizing character-driven drama and detailed cel animation. While it did not reach the widespread cultural ubiquity of the studio's earlier works like Gatchaman, it remains a notable example of the era's dedication to atmospheric storytelling and serves as a quiet testament to the craftsmanship of Tatsunoko's veteran animators during a transitional decade for the medium.
