Kimi no Matsu Basho e

Kimi no Matsu Basho e, which translates to To the Place Where You Wait, was produced in 2018 by Pony Canyon as a short-form original net animation. It was commissioned as a promotional project, specifically designed to serve as a collaborative piece between the studio and the regional tourism promotion for the city of Tottori, Japan. The short was crafted to highlight the scenic landscape and emotional resonance of the local Tottori Sand Dunes, aiming to bridge the gap between regional travel marketing and the aesthetic sensibilities of contemporary Japanese animation.

The creative direction focused on a melancholic yet hopeful narrative, emphasizing the quiet beauty of the coastal setting. The character design and visual tone were intended to evoke a sense of longing and connection, utilizing the stark contrast of the desert dunes against the sea to create a contemplative atmosphere. Upon its release, it was received as a high-quality example of how short-form animation can effectively promote regional culture and tourism, garnering positive attention within animation enthusiast communities for its fluid movement and atmospheric art direction.
