Kinjo no Numa

Kinjo no Numa, or The Swamp in the Neighborhood, was produced by students and staff at the Tokyo University of the Arts, commonly known as Geidai, as part of the institution's highly regarded animation program. The project emerged from a pedagogical environment that prioritizes experimental techniques and individual artistic vision, reflecting the university's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional cel and stop-motion animation styles.

The film is defined by its atmospheric approach to storytelling, emphasizing sensory details and a distinctively textured visual palette characteristic of the Geidai Animation studio's output. By blending folk-inspired imagery with modernist sensibilities, the creators sought to evoke a sense of quiet unease, a design choice that earned the work recognition within independent festival circuits for its nuanced character studies and deliberate pacing.
