Where it came from
The Kintamani Dog series, produced by Kachidoki Studio in 2021, emerged as a short-form animation project designed to highlight the unique cultural heritage of the Kintamani dog breed native to Bali. The studio utilized a distinct minimalist aesthetic, focusing on expressive character designs that captured the resilient and independent spirit of the breed while blending educational elements with traditional storytelling tropes common in contemporary Japanese independent animation.
Upon its release, the series was received primarily as a niche cultural vignette. The design choices were intentional, favoring soft color palettes and simplified line work to distinguish the series from more high-octane commercial anime airing during the same period. Critics noted that while the production scale remained modest, the project succeeded in its objective of portraying the canine's historical bond with the mountain communities of Indonesia, positioning the work as a gentle, understated contribution to international animal-focused media.
