Where it came from
Released in 2017, Kirakira☆Precure a la Mode: Paris to! Omoide no Mille-Feuille! serves as the theatrical entry for the fourteenth installment of the long-running Precure magical girl franchise. The film was produced by Toei Animation to expand upon the themes of the television series, which centered on the intersection of patisserie, confectionery, and heroic action. Set in a fictionalized version of Paris, the narrative follows the protagonists as they participate in a sweets competition, blending culinary artistry with the high-stakes fantasy battles characteristic of the series.
The film was directed by Kohei Kureta, who sought to leverage the vibrant, colorful aesthetic established in the character designs by Marie Ino. By transitioning the setting to France, the production team aimed to emphasize the international inspirations for the series' dessert motifs. Upon its release, the film was received as a lighthearted companion to the main series, praised by fans for its focus on character-driven moments and the detailed, whimsical animation of the various pastries featured throughout the story.
