Where it came from
Kiss and Cry is a 2017 Canadian biographical drama film directed by Sean Cisterna, produced to chronicle the true story of Carley Allison, a promising young figure skater and singer who was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma. The film was conceived as a tribute to Allison’s resilience and her efforts to raise awareness for cancer research, capturing the emotional complexities of her final years and her enduring impact on her community.
The production sought to balance the technical demands of recreating Allison’s skating performances with the intimate, often somber reality of her medical journey. By casting Sarah Fisher, who was a close friend of Allison in real life, the film prioritized emotional authenticity over stylized dramatization. Upon its release, it was noted for its sensitive portrayal of a life cut short, resonating particularly within the figure skating and cancer advocacy communities for its commitment to honoring the subject's personal legacy.
