Kumamiko -Girl Meets Bear Specials

The Kumamiko: Girl Meets Bear specials were produced by Kinema Citrus in 2016 as companion content to the main television anime series. These shorts were released alongside the home video volumes in Japan, serving as supplemental narratives that expanded on the comedic interactions between Machi Amayadori and her guardian bear, Natsu. They maintain the original series' premise, based on the manga by Masume Yoshimoto, which explores the clash between rural tradition and modern aspiration.

The animation direction for these specials retained the visual identity of the main production, focusing on the character designs adapted for the screen by Masatsune Miyano. The material was crafted to provide additional levity to the series, focusing on lighthearted vignettes that were well-received by fans who appreciated the additional screen time for the characters. While the main series sparked some discourse regarding its conclusion, these specials are generally regarded as a faithful extension of the source material's tone and aesthetic style.
