Where it came from
Kurunekobin originated as a spin-off and special animation project based on the popular Kuruneko blog and manga series by Sachiko Yamauchi. Produced by DAX Production and directed by Akitaro Daichi, the project was created to expand the franchise's presence beyond the standard television format, capturing the whimsical and relatable daily lives of Yamauchi's rescued cats. The series was designed to maintain the minimalist, sketch-like aesthetic of the source material, emphasizing humor and the genuine bond between pets and their human caregivers.
The reception of the Kuruneko franchise has been consistently warm, appreciated for its unpretentious charm and observational style. By translating the hand-drawn essence of the original blog into an animated format, the studio aimed to evoke the same sense of warmth and chaos that attracted the initial readership. The special formats, including Kurunekobin, served to satisfy the established fan base while showcasing the versatility of the characters in various short-form storytelling scenarios.
