Where it came from
Kyouryuu Wakusei, or Dinosaur Planet, was produced by Studio Junio and aired in 1993 as a pioneering experiment in Japanese television animation. The series is notable for its early and ambitious integration of computer-generated imagery alongside traditional cel animation, reflecting the burgeoning interest in digital production techniques within the anime industry during the early nineties.
The series was conceived as a science fiction narrative set on a prehistoric world, aiming to bridge the gap between educational nature programming and serialized adventure drama. While it remains a niche title today, its design was significant for the time, marking a transitional moment where studios began exploring how to blend 3D modeling with established character animation styles, laying early technical groundwork for subsequent productions.
