La croisée dans un labyrinthe étranger Picture Drama

Released in 2011 by studio Satelight, this picture drama served as a special supplement to the anime adaptation of Hinako Ashihara's manga, Ikoku Meiro no Croisée. The series is set in 19th-century Paris and follows the story of a young Japanese girl named Yune who travels to France to work at a metalworking shop in the Galerie des Panoramas. The picture drama was produced to expand upon the atmospheric, period-accurate world-building that the animation studio sought to cultivate through its meticulous background art and character designs.

The visual direction for the project was led by the studio's team to maintain the gentle, contemplative tone of the original manga. By focusing on still-image storytelling accompanied by voice performances, the production highlighted the cultural exchange between East and West during the late Meiji and Belle Époque periods. While the broader anime series was noted for its aesthetic attention to detail, this specific picture drama functioned as an intimate companion piece for fans of the source material's quiet, historical narrative.
