La croisée dans un labyrinthe étranger: Yune & Alice

La croisée dans un labyrinthe étranger, known internationally as Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, is a 2011 anime adaptation based on the manga by Hinata Takeda. Produced by Studio Satelight, the series was designed to capture the delicate, historical atmosphere of 19th-century Paris as seen through the eyes of Yune, a young Japanese girl who arrives in the city to work at an ironwork shop. The production is notable for its deliberate, slow-paced aesthetic, which seeks to emphasize the cultural dialogue and quiet emotional development between Yune and her guardian, Claude.

The character designs were overseen by Atsushi Yamagata, who worked to translate Takeda’s soft, detailed linework into a fluid animated format. While the series was praised for its lush background art and faithful reproduction of the manga’s period-accurate European setting, it was also recognized for its contemplative narrative tone. The special format iterations often focused on the specific dynamic between the core cast, including the relationship between Yune and the French girl Alice, highlighting the intersection of distinct social worlds.
