Where it came from
Lagrange: The Flower of Rin-ne – Kamogawa Days serves as a direct OVA continuation to the 2012 mecha anime series produced by Xebec. Released in the same year, the OVA was designed to bridge narrative gaps and provide fans with additional character development set within the seaside city of Kamogawa, which serves as the show's primary setting and thematic anchor. It reflects the broader visual style of the series, which emphasized vibrant, lighthearted interactions between the lead pilot characters and their extraterrestrial counterparts.
The animation production for this project involved the technical expertise of studio Production I.G, which provided support for the series alongside Xebec to maintain high visual standards for the mecha combat sequences and the lush coastal environments. The design philosophy behind the project focused on blending the 'magical girl' aesthetic with traditional robotic combat, a stylistic choice intended to distinguish the franchise in a crowded genre. While the series received moderate attention for its unique aesthetic and local tourism partnerships in Kamogawa, the OVA remains a niche companion piece valued primarily by dedicated followers of the original broadcast.
