Where it came from
Released in 1996, Landlock is a direct-to-video science fiction OVA produced by the studio Tokyo Kids. It emerged during a prolific era for experimental Japanese animation, a period characterized by high-concept storytelling and ambitious visual world-building intended to capture the burgeoning market for specialized collector home media.
The project is notable for its intricate character and mechanical design, which reflected the aesthetic sensibilities of mid-90s anime through a focus on dramatic, stylized silhouettes and post-apocalyptic motifs. While the title occupies a niche space in animation history, it remains a documented entry in the catalog of independent OVA productions that defined the creative output of small-to-mid-sized studios during that decade.
