Where it came from
Law of Devil, also known as Mo Fa Shi, originated as a popular Chinese web novel before being adapted into an ONA series by Tencent Penguin Pictures. Produced during a period of rapid expansion for Chinese 3D animation, the project aimed to capitalize on the growing domestic market for high-fantasy xuanhuan narratives, which blend traditional cultivation themes with Western-inspired magic systems.
The animation reflects the aesthetic standards typical of contemporary Tencent-backed productions, emphasizing elaborate character models and fast-paced magical combat sequences. While the series faced the usual challenges of adapting dense literary source material into a visual format, it was developed as part of a strategic push to establish a consistent brand of stylized, CGI-heavy episodic content on Tencent's streaming platforms.
