Leave it to Piyoko pyo!

Leave it to Piyoko pyo! was released in 2003 as a spin-off OVA series derived from the Di Gi Charat franchise, which originated from the retail chain Broccoli to promote their Gamers stores. The series focuses on the character Piyoko, the leader of the villainous Black Gema Gema Dan, shifting the tone from the chaotic comedy of the main series to a lighthearted exploration of her life and motivations. It reflects the peak of Broccoli's multimedia marketing strategy in the early 2000s, utilizing the character's rising popularity to engage fans beyond the original mascot shorts.

The production was handled by Madhouse, known for high-quality animation, while character designs maintained the distinct aesthetic of original creator Koge-Donbo. The visual style emphasized the cutesy, chibi-influenced character tropes that defined the 'moe' aesthetic of that era. Upon release, the OVA was well-received by the established Di Gi Charat fan base, who appreciated the character-centric storytelling and the continuation of the quirky, absurdist humor that the franchise had established through its earlier television iterations.
