Legend of Regios

Legend of Regios, known in Japan as Chrome Shelled Regios, was produced by studio ZEXCS and released in 2009. The series is based on a light novel franchise written by Shusuke Amagi and illustrated by Miyuu. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity survives within mobile, fortified cities to escape mutated monsters called contamination beasts, the narrative reflects the common late-2000s light novel trend of blending high-stakes fantasy combat with the social dynamics of an academic institution.

The animation design by ZEXCS focused on balancing the spectacle of the city-to-city warfare with the character-driven elements of the school life arcs. While the series was received with moderate interest as a standard entry in the action-fantasy genre of its time, it is noted for its world-building and the distinct, specialized martial arts system utilized by the characters. It serves as a representative example of the studio's production style during that period, leaning heavily into the tropes of the light novel adaptation boom of the late 2000s.
