LET'S Nupu Nupu

Let's Nupu Nupu was produced by Group TAC and aired in Japan in 1998, emerging during a period when Japanese animation studios were experimenting with surreal, short-form programming. The series is centered on the Nupu Nupu, strange, malleable creatures that inhabit a bizarre world, serving as a vehicle for experimental visual humor and deadpan absurdist comedy. It was designed to appeal to audiences who enjoyed non-sequitur style animation, often standing out in television lineups for its distinctive, minimalist character designs and unpredictable narrative structure.

The animation style, characterized by its lo-fi aesthetic and fluid, rubbery character motion, reflects the creative freedom afforded to independent-minded studios in the late 1990s. While not a massive commercial success, the series gained a cult following among fans of avant-garde animation for its willingness to forgo traditional storytelling tropes. Critics at the time often noted the show's peculiar charm and its role as an interesting, if niche, example of the era's broader interest in bizarre, character-driven shorts.
