Where it came from
Released in 2008, Letter Bee: Light and Blue Night Fantasy serves as a short special episode that preceded the full-length television anime adaptation of Hiroyuki Asada's manga series. Produced by Studio Pierrot, this project was designed to introduce audiences to the unique, steampunk-inspired world of Amberground, where the sun never shines and delivery workers known as Letter Bees protect the hearts of the populace.
The animation features the distinct visual style of the manga, prioritizing the series' melancholic atmosphere and intricate character designs. While this special is often considered a promotional pilot or teaser for the subsequent series, it was received as a faithful tonal representation of Asada's source material, capturing the blend of fantasy and emotional gravity that defined the franchise throughout its run.
