Lord of Mysteries: Chibi Theatre

Lord of Mysteries: Chibi Theatre was produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures as a supplementary series to the primary animated adaptation of the popular web novel by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving. Released in an ONA format, the series employs a minimalist, caricature-based animation style to recontextualize the dense, Lovecraftian-Victorian world of the source material into lighthearted, comedic vignettes, providing fans with a reprieve from the intense narrative stakes of the original story.

The character designs were crafted to distill the complex, ornate aesthetics of the Loen Kingdom’s Victorian-steampunk setting into simplified chibi forms. By focusing on exaggerated personality traits and humorous interactions between the protagonists like Klein Moretti, the studio aimed to broaden the franchise's appeal and deepen audience engagement with the established character archetypes. Upon release, the series was well-received by the web novel's dedicated community as a charming and effective companion piece to the core intellectual property.
