Where it came from
Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club: NEXT SKY was released in 2023 as an OVA continuation of the popular Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime series. It serves as a bridge between the second season and the subsequent theatrical film trilogy, focusing on the character Kohaku Shiraki and her interactions with the established club members. The project was produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks, with Bushiroad facilitating the expansive multimedia strategy that defines the Love Live! franchise.
The production maintains the series' characteristic emphasis on individual artistic expression, as the Nijigasaki club is uniquely defined by its members performing solo songs rather than as a single unit. The visual style remains consistent with the studio's digital animation standards, prioritizing polished character modeling and high-energy musical sequences. Upon its theatrical premiere in Japan, the work was well-received by the established fanbase for its ability to balance new narrative development with the club's signature character-driven song performances.
