Love Live! Superstar!!

Love Live! Superstar!! was produced by the animation studio Sunrise and first premiered in 2021 as the fourth major installment in the expansive Love Live! multimedia franchise. The series was developed to continue the tradition of school idol projects, introducing a new cast of characters centered around the newly established Yuigaoka Girls' High School in Omotesando, Tokyo. The project was conceived as a narrative exploration of musical ambition and personal growth, following the protagonist Kanon Shibuya and her journey toward becoming a school idol.

The character designs were overseen by Atsushi Saito, who sought to capture a distinct aesthetic that felt both grounded in the specific geography of Tokyo and aligned with the franchise's established visual identity. The series received significant attention for its blend of traditional 2D animation and 3D musical performance sequences, a hallmark of the studio's technical approach to the franchise. Upon release, it was well-received by the existing fanbase for its emotional storytelling and the introduction of the group Liella!, whose subsequent real-world concert performances became an integral part of the project's overall marketing strategy.
