Where it came from
Lupin the 3rd: Green vs Red was produced by TMS Entertainment and released by VAP in 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Monkey Punch's iconic manga series. The narrative explores the legacy of the master thief, centering on the confusion caused by numerous imposters wearing the character's signature jackets, serving as a meta-commentary on the evolution of the Lupin character across different generations of fans.
The production sought to contrast the classic, nostalgic aesthetic of Lupin's original green jacket from the 1971 series against the more modern red jacket popularized in the 1977 installment. By pitting these two identities against one another, the studio aimed to capture the enduring appeal of the franchise's shifting tone, balancing lighthearted caper tropes with the grittier, experimental roots of the original source material.
