Where it came from
Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata and the Two Lupins is a 2025 ONA production from Telecom Animation Film, serving as the latest entry in the stylized, gritty Lupin the IIIrd franchise reboot series. This iteration continues the design philosophy established in Takeshi Koike's previous works, which favor sharp silhouettes, heavy shading, and a noir-inspired aesthetic that distinguishes these projects from the more traditional, comedic tone of the long-running television series.
The film focuses on the complex relationship between Inspector Zenigata and his recurring adversary, Lupin III, leaning into the psychological cat-and-mouse dynamic that has defined the characters since Monkey Punch's original manga debut in 1967. By utilizing the ONA format, the studio aimed to deliver a high-fidelity visual experience that emphasizes kinetic action sequences and a darker, more cinematic atmosphere, catering to a mature audience familiar with the sub-series' unique art style.
