Lupin the Third x Monkey Majik

The collaboration between the iconic Lupin the Third franchise and the Japanese-Canadian pop-rock band Monkey Majik emerged as a thematic fusion project for the series' 40th anniversary. Produced to celebrate the enduring legacy of Monkey Punch's master thief, the project utilized Monkey Majik’s signature blend of English and Japanese lyrics to capture the sophisticated, retro-cool aesthetic of the Lupin universe. It sought to modernize the franchise's musical identity while paying homage to the jazz-infused roots established by Yuji Ohno.

The design of the visual assets for this collaboration mirrored the classic late-1970s animation style, featuring sharp lines and the muted color palettes characteristic of Lupin’s second television series. Critical reception was generally positive among fans of both the band and the anime, as the tracks were noted for successfully balancing contemporary pop sensibilities with the whimsical, heist-driven atmosphere of the source material. The collaboration serves as a testament to the franchise's ongoing ability to integrate itself into the contemporary Japanese music scene.
