Magical Circle Guru Guru 2

Magical Circle Guru Guru 2, known in Japan as Doki Doki Densetsu Mahōjin Guru Guru, was produced by Nippon Animation and broadcast in 2000. It serves as the second television adaptation of Hiroyuki Eto’s surreal comedy manga, which parodies the tropes of Japanese role-playing games. The series continues the quest of the young hero Nike and the mage Kukuri as they journey to defeat the Demon King, maintaining the original's signature blend of absurdist humor and simple, whimsical character designs.

The production sought to capture the distinct, paper-cutout aesthetic and spontaneous gags that defined the manga’s unique visual language. While the original 1994 series is often remembered as a classic of the mid-90s, the 2000 iteration was designed to update the animation style while retaining the lighthearted spirit of the source material. It was received by fans as a faithful continuation of the franchise's parody-heavy narrative, standing as a nostalgic piece of turn-of-the-millennium Japanese television animation.
