Mahou Gakuen LUNAR! Aoi Ryuu no Himitsu

Mahou Gakuen LUNAR! Aoi Ryuu no Himitsu, or Magic School LUNAR! The Secret of the Blue Dragon, was produced by J.C.Staff and released in 1997 as an original video animation. It serves as a side story within the broader Lunar role-playing game franchise, which gained significant popularity during the 1990s for its traditional fantasy storytelling and character-driven narratives. The project was designed to expand the lore of the series' magical academy setting, offering fans a lighthearted look at the lives of students during the period before the primary game events.

The production sought to maintain the aesthetic style established by the game's animated sequences, emphasizing vibrant character designs and classic magical girl tropes common in the era's anime. While it was well-received by core fans of the Lunar series as a nostalgic companion piece to the core titles, it remains a specialized interest for collectors of 90s OVA media. Its legacy is tied to the studio's broader efforts to adapt game properties into animated media during the mid-to-late 90s, capturing the distinct visual language of the franchise under the direction of the animation team at J.C.Staff.
