Having finished high school, Gorou Honda sets his sights on becoming a professional baseball player. His dreams are much more ambitious than becoming a Japanese Baseball League player, so he instead decides to move to the birthplace of his beloved sport, America, in order to play in the Major League.
However, Gorou finds that the Major League players are much faster, stronger, and more driven than he is. Nonetheless, he is eager to catch up with them. In order to do so, Gorou must first conquer the ranks of the Minor League, where numerous skilled players compete in the grueling rise to the Majors.
Gorou learns that he will have to adapt to the stark differences of American culture and push himself to new extremes as his race to join the Major League begins.

Where it came from
Major S4, released in 2008, serves as the fourth installment of the long-running anime adaptation of Takuya Mitsuda’s sports manga. Produced by Studio Hibari and broadcast by NHK, this season focuses on the protagonist Goro Honda's transition to the American Minor League circuit. It captures the narrative shift from Japanese high school baseball to the intense, unfamiliar environment of the United States, emphasizing themes of perseverance and cultural adaptation.
The series remains a definitive entry in the sports genre for its grounded approach to baseball mechanics and its serialized character development. Directed by Fukushima Toshinori, the production design aims to convey the grit of the Minor Leagues while maintaining the character-centric warmth established in previous seasons. It was received as a faithful continuation of the series’ core emotional arc, successfully raising the stakes for the protagonist as he pursues his professional ambitions.
