Where it came from
Makafushigi serves as the opening theme song for the anime series Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, which was produced by the studio CloverWorks and premiered in 2018. The track was composed and arranged by the band The Peggies, who were specifically tasked with capturing the show's blend of supernatural mystery and adolescent emotional turbulence. The song is characterized by its infectious pop-rock energy and lyrics that mirror the protagonist's struggle to navigate complex social dynamics and urban legends.
Upon its release, the composition was praised for its stylistic cohesion with the series' narrative tone, effectively balancing a lighthearted melody with an underlying sense of melancholy. The production by CloverWorks complemented the music with a vibrant, character-focused visual sequence that became synonymous with the show's identity. It remains a notable example of contemporary anime music that resonates with fans by grounding fantastical storytelling in relatable, character-driven themes.
