Tasuke Shichiri is the envy of his friends because since his parents are always traveling he can do as he pleases. It's a surprise present from his father that keeps him from being lonely: an odd ring known as the shitenrin. From it comes a moon goddess named Shaorin, dedicated to protecting her "master" -- no matter how much of a mess she makes doing it!

Where it came from
Mamotte Shugogetten! was produced by Toei Animation and aired in 1998, based on the manga series by Minene Sakurano. The series centers on a high school boy who accidentally summons a protective moon spirit from a magical pedestal, marking the transition of the manga's fantasy-romance elements into an animated format during a period when supernatural romantic comedies were gaining popularity in Japanese television.
The production utilized the signature aesthetic of late-90s Toei animation, focusing on a balance between whimsical comedy and sentimental character development. While the adaptation was noted by fans for its faithfulness to the tone of the source material, it remains a distinct artifact of the era's animation style, often studied by collectors for its character designs and its influence on the 'magical girlfriend' genre tropes that were prevalent in anime at the turn of the millennium.
