Fate had never been kind to Ji Ning. Wracked by illnesses and infirm his entire life on Earth, Ning knew early on that he would die as a teenager. What he didn’t know was that there really was such a thing as life after death, and that the universe was a far larger place than he thought. A lucky twist of fate (one of the few in Ning’s life) meant that Ning was reborn into a world of Immortals and monsters, of Ki Refiners and powerful Fiendgods, a world where Dynasties lasted for millions of years. A world which is both greater and yet also smaller than he ever could imagine. He would have the opportunity to join them, and in this life, Ning swore to himself, he would never let himself be weak again! The Era he was born into was a Desolate one, but Ning would make it his era.

Where it came from
Mang Wasteland Period emerged from Shenman Entertainment during a period of experimentation within the Chinese independent animation scene. Produced as an ONA (Original Net Animation), the series was conceived as a gritty exploration of post-apocalyptic themes, aiming to distinguish itself from more conventional mainstream animation through a stark, atmospheric visual language. It was developed to capture a sense of desolation and survival, utilizing a minimalist aesthetic that focused on the psychological isolation of its characters.
The creative direction sought to balance traditional illustrative techniques with the digital limitations of the era's ONA format. While the project remains a niche entry in the landscape of digital animation, it is often cited by followers of the medium for its ambitious tone and the deliberate pacing of its world-building. Upon its release, it garnered interest primarily from audiences seeking unconventional storytelling, though it ultimately maintained a cult status rather than achieving widespread commercial visibility.
