Manga Nihon Keizai Nyuumon

Manga Nihon Keizai Nyuumon, known in English as Introduction to the Japanese Economy, was produced by Knack Productions and aired in 1987. It originated as an educational television series based on the best-selling business manga series authored by Yoshiaki Ishinomori. The series was created to demystify complex macroeconomic concepts for the general public during the height of the Japanese asset price bubble, translating the dense financial theories found in the source material into an accessible animated format.

The production utilized a distinct pedagogical approach, blending narrative storytelling with analytical segments to explain corporate structures, international trade, and market fluctuations. Directed by the team at Knack, the visual design stayed faithful to Ishinomori's style, prioritizing clarity and information density over traditional action-oriented animation. While it remains a niche curiosity for Western audiences, it is recognized in Japan as a quintessential artifact of the 1980s, reflecting an era where media literacy concerning the national economy became a significant cultural priority.
