Saku Ryojiro has just transferred to Kouka Academy, which is famous for theatrical activities. On his first day at school, he started a fight with Aoi Mirai. To make the matter worse, it was seen by Aizen, the head of the Drama Club. All of Ryojiro's classmates are problem students, and he thought he could use the fight to rid himself of them. Then, Ryojiro is assigned to direct the classmates in a drama competition against the Drama Club. If they lose the competition, they will be suspended. However, because they are problem students, he has difficulties directing them.

Where it came from
Maple Colors was released in 2004 as an original video animation by Milky Animation Label, a studio recognized during the early 2000s for its niche output within the adult animation sector. The production emerged during a period when studios were increasingly experimenting with stylized digital coloring and distinct character designs to differentiate their titles in a saturated market.
The project is often noted for its departure from standard aesthetic conventions of the time, favoring a softer, more atmospheric visual palette that leaned into the 'maple' theme suggested by the title. While the creative team focused on a cohesive artistic identity, the production was met with modest attention, primarily circulating among enthusiasts of the label's specific visual direction and thematic sensibilities.
