Where it came from
Marriage of God & Soul Godannar!! was produced by studio OLM and AIC as a 26-episode television anime series that debuted in 2004. The series functions as a stylized homage to classic mecha tropes, specifically the Super Robot genre of the 1970s and 80s. It was conceived during a period when modern digital animation was blending with traditional giant robot aesthetics, leading the production team to balance high-octane action sequences with the central romantic narrative of its protagonist couple.
The series was directed by Yasuchika Nagaoka, who sought to blend classic mechanical combat with a heightened, melodramatic tone centered on the marriage between the main characters. While the show is remembered for its distinct blend of romance and robot-on-kaiju battles, it garnered attention for its earnest commitment to the genre's legacy rather than deconstructing it. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the Super Robot revival movement for its consistency and bold character designs.
