MARS RED Mini Anime: Zero Kikan Nippou

Mars Red: Zero Kikan Nippou is a series of short, animated vignettes released in 2020 by the studio AQUA ARIS to complement the broader Mars Red franchise. Set in an alternate 1923 Tokyo where vampires exist, the project was designed to expand upon the atmospheric lore of the original stage plays written by Bun-O Fujisawa. The production team utilized a distinct, minimalist art style to provide fans with brief, immersive glimpses into the daily lives of the characters belonging to Code Zero, the secret vampire-hunting military unit.

The reception of these shorts was localized primarily within the existing fanbase of the Mars Red intellectual property. By focusing on character-driven moments rather than the primary narrative arc, the studio aimed to deepen the audience's emotional connection to the ensemble cast. The project served as a stylistic bridge between the stage origins and the subsequent television anime adaptation, emphasizing the moody, period-appropriate aesthetic that defines the series' visual identity.
