Where it came from
Martial Universe, known in Chinese as Wu Dong Qian Kun, originated as a popular web novel by the author Tiancan Tudou, which garnered a massive following for its intricate world-building and character progression. Recognizing its potential for visual adaptation, Tencent Penguin Pictures produced this ONA series, aiming to translate the high-stakes cultivation fantasy into a high-fidelity 3D animated format that aligns with the aesthetic standards of contemporary Chinese donghua.
The animation utilizes advanced CGI techniques to capture the expansive martial arts sequences and mystical settings characteristic of the source material. Produced by the studio Motion Magic, the series was designed to appeal to both loyal readers of the original novel and new audiences of fantasy animation. Upon its release, it was well-received for its ambitious production value and its commitment to the complex lore of the cultivation genre, eventually expanding into multiple seasons that continue to track the protagonist Lin Dong's journey.
