Where it came from
Maru-neun Gangjwi, an animated ONA series produced by Laftel, emerged as part of a trend in South Korean independent digital animation. The project was conceived to translate the whimsical and episodic nature of web-based storytelling into a short-form animated medium, focusing on accessible, lighthearted narratives that resonate with younger audiences familiar with streaming platforms.
The visual identity of the series reflects a minimalist, soft-toned aesthetic intended to prioritize character expression and comedic timing over complex rendering. The design team sought to capture the essence of character-driven web comics, resulting in a production style that emphasizes fluidity and expressive movement. Upon release, the series was received as a gentle addition to the streaming landscape, praised for its straightforward charm and approachable animation style.
