Where it came from
Mecha-Doc, known in Japan as Yoroshiku Mechadoc, debuted in 1984 as a television anime series produced by Tatsunoko Production. It stands out in the studio's history as one of the earliest examples of an anime centered specifically on car tuning and automotive culture, emerging during the peak of the Japanese domestic market's interest in performance vehicles.
The series was directed by Takashi Anno and aimed to capture the burgeoning enthusiast scene, focusing on a group of young mechanics who upgrade cars for racing and performance. While it maintained the classic Tatsunoko house style, it is remembered by aficionados for its detailed depictions of real-world vehicle models of the era, which distinguished it from the more fantastical mecha anime that defined the studio's broader catalog.
