Mezzo Forte

Mezzo Forte was released in 2000 as a two-part original video animation produced by Studio ARMS. Conceived as a spiritual successor to the creators' earlier work A Kite, the series was designed by director Yasuomi Umetsu, who served as writer, character designer, and animation director. The project was intended to push the boundaries of high-octane action animation, focusing on the kinetic energy of gunplay and professional assassin storylines that were popular in late 90s and early 2000s cult anime circles.

The visual language of Mezzo Forte is defined by Umetsu's clean, distinctive character designs and a fluid approach to violent choreography. Upon its release, the series became a notable example of the stylized, mature-oriented animation style that gained traction in the Western home video market through early DVD distribution.
