Kitsu, Korasho and Rakki are playing football on the school yard when a quarrel between Kitsu and Takero emerges. Witnessing this, the green frog abducts all four to an alternate reality. Rakki, however, is quickly separated from the other three, causing them to go on a search for her. The three wander through this world they are trapped in and are faced with increasingly difficult challenges. First they meet the walking stationery, then they come across Kotoba Princess and as their final challenge they found themselves faced up against Sansuu Robo Super. On the brink of losing, Kitsu and Takero see themselves forced to reconcile their earlier differences and unite their strengths.

Where it came from
Released in the early 1990s as a specialized educational media project, Mezase! Kakkoii 1-nensei: Champion ni Chousen was produced to bridge the gap between popular children's entertainment and academic preparation. It emerged during a period in Japan where studios frequently leveraged recognizable animation styles to help incoming first-grade students transition into the formal expectations of primary school, focusing on developing essential reading, writing, and social skills through a narrative-driven format.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of its era, characterized by character designs that prioritize accessibility and charm to maintain the interest of young learners. By framing lessons as a competition—the titular challenge—the creators sought to transform mundane preparatory tasks into an engaging quest. While the title is primarily remembered as a niche educational tool rather than a mainstream critical success, it remains a notable example of how animation was utilized in Japan as a constructive pedagogical resource.
