When hit KBS drama I'm Sorry, I Love You aired in 2004, it recorded high TV ratings, won the acclaim of critics, and quickly became one of the flagbearers of the Korean Wave. The tragic love story of Mu Hyeok (So Ji Sub of What Happened in Bali) and Eun Chae (Yim Soo Jung of Lump Sugar and I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK) made stars out of its leads and attracted an enormous fanbase throughout Asia. Two years later, G&G Entertainment released a 35-minute animated version of the drama, Between of One Year, consisting of highlights from the drama and new scenes dealing with the final moments of Eun Chae and Mu Hyeok's relationship. The script was supervised by the writer of the original live-action drama, Lee Kyung Hee.

Where it came from
Mianhada Saranghanda, known internationally as I'm Sorry, I Love You, is a seminal 2004 South Korean television drama produced by G&G Entertainment. Emerging during the height of the Hallyu wave, the series was crafted to explore themes of tragic fate, familial longing, and redemption, centered on the life of a man abandoned at birth who returns to Korea seeking reconciliation. Its narrative structure and emotional intensity significantly influenced the 'melodrama' genre in K-drama history, setting a standard for the tragic romantic archetypes that would follow.
The production is noted for its distinct visual aesthetic and moody, cinematic tone, directed by Lee Hyung-min and written by Lee Kyung-hee. The creative team aimed for a raw, melancholic atmosphere that departed from the lighter romantic comedies popular at the time. Upon its release, the series received widespread acclaim for the performances of So Ji-sub and Im Soo-jung, and it became a cultural phenomenon that cemented the influence of Korean media across East Asia.
