Adapted from a short tale from self-made animator Bu Sifan, writer and director of Dahufa, the feature introduces a fictional golden-colored flower, which possesses the magical ability to debauch humans who get too close to it.
As the flower only chooses kindhearted people as hosts, a group of martial artists who want to eradicate the plants face a dilemma: Should one kill good people for rescuing men from sin?

Where it came from
Miao Xiansheng, or Mr. Miao, was produced by Enlight Pictures and released as part of a growing trend in Chinese animation to explore folkloric and fantastical themes through high-quality 3D computer animation. The project sought to blend traditional Chinese cultural aesthetics with modern narrative structures, positioning itself within the studio's broader efforts to expand the appeal of domestic animated features to both younger domestic audiences and international viewers interested in non-Western animation styles.
The character design and visual direction were crafted to emphasize a distinct, stylized appearance that balances whimsy with emotional depth. By focusing on a character-driven story, the design team aimed to create a resonant visual identity that distinguishes the film from more conventional action-oriented animation. Upon its release, the film was noted for its technical polish and its contribution to the evolving landscape of Chinese feature-length animation, receiving praise for its artistic direction and thematic focus on companionship.
