It is said that train stations are not only an end and a beginning for many, but also are a place for lost and forgotten objects – and for those who are forgotten. On a rain-soaked day, Minky Momo rides the train towards her final destination and ends up conversing with an old man who is trying to reunite with someone very important to him. After discovering he left his passport on the train, Momo embarks to try to find him and consequently runs into both her parallel self, and a young girl who is in need of both of their help. She has ties to the station, and yearns to find a resolution to her troubles...

Where it came from
Minky Momo in Tabidachi no Eki, or Station of Departure, was produced in 1994 as a standalone original video animation by Hanna Pictures. This project served as a poignant return to the magical girl genre that the franchise helped define in the early 1980s. Emerging during a period of transition for the series, the production sought to bridge the gap between the classic iterations and the more melancholic, narrative-driven storytelling that characterized mid-nineties animation.
The design and direction of this OVA focused on a more subdued, atmospheric aesthetic compared to the vibrant television series that preceded it. It was crafted as a self-contained vignette, intended to evoke a sense of nostalgia for long-time fans while exploring themes of growing up and moving on. While received as a niche entry, it remains a notable example of the studio's attempt to reinterpret established character tropes through a more mature, contemplative lens.
