Where it came from
Minky Momo in Yume ni Kakeru Hashi, released in 1993, serves as a thematic conclusion and a nostalgic tribute to the magical girl franchise that first debuted in 1982. Produced by Ashi Productions and distributed by Starchild Records, this OVA was developed during a period when the original series remained culturally significant in Japan, aiming to offer fans a more mature, dreamlike narrative that revisited the core essence of Momo's transformation and mission.
The production was helmed by director Kunihiko Yuyama, a key figure in the franchise’s history, who sought to blend the whimsical nature of the original series with a more melancholic, surreal atmosphere. The visual design reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of early 90s animation, characterized by softer palettes and expressive character models. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a sentimental epilogue, appreciated by long-time followers for its emotional weight and its return to the series' foundational spirit.
